Sussex Excellence Scholarships for UK, EU and International Students in UK, 2018-2019

The University of Sussex is inviting applications for excellence scholarships for UK, EU and international students. Scholarships are available for the undergraduate degree programme.

The University of Sussex is a public research university situated in Falmer, near Brighton in Sussex.

It is assumed that all students in the summer program will be fluent in English. The modules are intensive, and they will need good language skills to keep up.

Scholarship Description:

  • Application Deadline: April 9, 2018
  • Course Level: Scholarships are available for the undergraduate degree programme.
  • Study Subject: Scholarships are offered in diverse fields to help students in upgrading their education.
  • Scholarship Award: £3,000 cash award in year one of a three or four year undergraduate degree.

Eligibility for the Scholarship:

  • Eligible Countries: UK, Europe and International applicants are eligible to apply.
  • Entrance Requirements: To be eligible for this scholarship, and automatically receive the award, you must:
    • be taking up your place as an undergraduate student in September 2018
    • meet the required grade in one of the listed qualifications (for holders of qualifications not listed there is a separate application process)

    Canadian British Colombia Senior Secondary Graduation Diploma AAAAB from Grade 12 courses
    Canadian Ontario Secondary School Diploma AAAAAB from Grade12 U or M courses
    European Baccalaureate Overall average of 85%
    French Baccalauréat /Option Internationale du Baccalauréat (OIB) Overall mark of 14
    German Abitur Overall mark of 1.6
    Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Scores of 555 in three subjects, excluding English, Chinese and Core Maths
    Indian Standard XII (CBSE, ICSE and Metro boards) Overall average of 85%
    Indian Standard XII (West Bengal) Overall average of 80%

    *You will also be eligible if you have mixed BTEC and A Level combination of equal ‘size’ to 3 A Levels / BTEC National Extended Diploma.Applicants who are taking a BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate combined with two A levels would meet the requirements if they achieve at least Distinction in the National Extended Certificate and AA in the two A levels.

    For those taking a BTEC Level 3 National Diploma, the eligibility criteria would be met by achieving at least Distinction Distinction in the National Diploma combined with an A grade in one A level.

    To be eligible to be considered for this scholarship, if you are not entitled to receive the award automatically, you must:

    • be taking up your place as an undergraduate student in September 2018
    • submit a scholarship application before the deadline
    • receive very high grades (approximately top 10%)

    You are not eligible for this scholarship if you:

    • are going to study a Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) degree
    • if you are repeating your first year at Sussex
    • do not accept the University of Sussex as your firm choice
    • do not meet the specified minimum requirement
    • defer your place to 2019, as you would need to be considered again in 2019
  • English Language Requirements: It is assumed that all students in the summer program will be fluent in English. The modules are intensive, and they will need good language skills to keep up. For students whose first language is not English, you will need to provide evidence of suitable English Language qualifications as follows:
    • International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in each component
    • Pearson’s Test of English (Academic) with 62 overall with at least 56 in all four skills
    • Cambridge Advanced Certificate in English (CAE): grade B
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-based (TOEFL IBT): 88 overall with 20 in listening, 19 in reading, 21 in speaking and 23 in writing

UK Scholarships

Application Procedure:

Introduction: If you are applying with any of the qualifications listed in the eligibility criteria section, then you are automatically awarded the scholarship if you meet the required grade. There is no application form.

How to Apply: If your qualification is not listed in the eligibility criteria section, you are required to complete the Sussex Excellence Scholarship application form to be considered for one of the 10 additional awards available.

You must submit this form after you have applied for your course and before the 9 April 2018 deadline. All applications are considered by the scholarships panel in April 2018.

The outcome of the scholarship panel will be communicated in May 2018.

Automatic recipients will receive confirmation of the award at registration in September.
