Academy fellowships are currently available to applicants from the following countries:

  • Iraq
  • Japan

  • Russia
  • South Korea
  • Syria
  • Ukraine

If you fulfil the nationality eligibility requirements for a specific fellowship but currently live in another country such as the UK or the US you may still apply but preference will be given to applicants who are currently working in these countries and who would stand to benefit most from undertaking the fellowship. Applications will be accepted from applicants holding dual nationality which includes one of these countries.

Research topic

Applicants must propose a research project that fits within the topics advertised for the fellowship.

Academic qualifications

Academy fellowship candidates should, at a minimum, have completed a BA degree or equivalent, although an MA degree with an international focus is  preferred.

Academy fellows will be in the early stages of their career, have between two to five years of relevant work experience, and have demonstrated evidence of consistent achievement.

Academy senior fellows will be at a more advanced stage of their career and will have completed their MA or a PhD, with an international focus. In addition, they should have at least eight years’ postgraduate experience and a strong record of achievements.

Language skills

We expect all our fellows to have good levels of English, both written and verbal. While we do not require a TEFL or similar standard, this will be evaluated through the recruitment process.
