About the program

The World Academy of Science-CUI Fellowship Programme for Postgraduate Research offers fellowships to young scientists from developing countries (except Pakistan) who would like to earn all or part of their Ph.D. in natural or social sciences. Fellowship Programme for Young Scientists in Pakistan Details

Application period: 1 June 2021- 31 August 2021 (applications will open on 1st June)

Host country: Islamabad, Pakistan

Partner organization: Comsats University Islamabad (CUI)

Duration: min. 6 months to max. 3 years (up to 18 months for a sandwich program).

Fellowship Programme for Young Scientists in Pakistan Benefits

The fellowship provides monthly stipends to help cover living costs e.g., food, housing and medical insurance.

Fellowship areas

The PG fellowships will be on offer in the following areas:

Natural and relevant applied sciences:

  • Mathematics, Biosciences, Metrology, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Physics, Chemical Engineering and Management Sciences.

Social and economic sciences:

  • Development Studies, Economics, Economics, and International Relations.

Eligibilities

Candidates for these fellowships must satisfy the criteria below:

  • Be citizens of a developing country in the south (excluding Pakistan);
  • Must not be working in Pakistan;
  • Candidates must not possess any visa for temporary or permanent citizenship in Pakistan or any developed country;
  • Have obtained an MSc degree in the field of natural sciences;
  • Hold an MSc degree in a field of social sciences IF applying in a field of eligible social sciences;
  • Applicants can be either registered for a Ph.D. program in their home countries or not.
  • be 35 years old or below by 31 December in the current year;

For candidates who apply for a CUI-TWAS Full-time PG Fellowship:

  • candidates applying for a full-time Ph.D. program at CUI must have completed 18 years of education up to MS/MPhil degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 and departmental test within the first semester of studies, or have a valid GAT (subject) /GRE (subject) score as explained on the CUI website.

For SANDWICH Fellowships: be registered Ph.D. students in a developing state and provide the “Registration and No Objection Certificate” from the HOME university (see sample in guidelines);

For FULL-TIME Fellowships:  Be willing to register at CUI, Pakistan;

  • Provide a certificate showing good health condition- including results of a COVID-19 test (not older than 48 hours) – from a registered physician;
  • Submit evidence of proficiency in English, if the previous medium of teaching was not English;
  • Commit that h/she will return to her/his home country upon completion of the fellowship;
  • Do not receive other assignments during the course of her/his fellowship;
  • Assume financial responsibility for any accompanying family members and for any deferral incurred in completing the fellowship.

Note: “apply now” will appear as soon as the application opens.

Note2: Firstly, applicants should apply for preliminary acceptance letter as early as possible, even before the opening date of the call. Applications without an acceptance letter from CUI will not be accepted.

Reminder: submit the acceptance letter in the proper format while applying or by the deadline at the latest.
